Health and Migration National Strategic Plan of Morocco’s Ministry of Health, in cooperation with the International Organization for Migration (IOM)

Keys to the project
In recent years, Morocco has experienced an increase and diversification of migratory flows from Sub-Saharan African countries, thus becoming a transit and destination country. This situation has given way to new needs and challenges for the public health services. Public administrations have mobilised to provide solutions in sectors such as health, based on the principles of equity and human rights.
The Health and Migration National Strategic Plan focuses on migrants who are especially vulnerable, including economic migrants from low income countries, asylum seekers, refugees, human trafficking victims and unaccompanied minors. These groups face specific risks and difficulties in accessing healthcare as a result of the migration process, and require specialised medical and psychosocial care.
This is why the plan has been structured around five strategic areas, and has been designed as a framework of reference for planning measures and public resources, and to coordinate government actions with an integrated health approach across all policies.
1) Strengthening of surveillance and research
2) Promotion of health and prevention
3) Adequate healthcare
4) Plan governance
5) Training of health professionals
